In he moved to Stanford University as an assistant professor of finance. In he joined the HEC Paris , first as an associate professor, then a professor of finance, and later a distinguished emeritus professor. Solnik became a visiting professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from to , and later was appointed as a professor and academic director of the Master of Science in Global Finance program at that university.
Solnik researches trends in global finance,    and has made a particular study of international diversificstion of investment. Solnik has written seven books, five in France and two in the USA, including Global Investments, a textbook in the field formerly titled International Investments, and translated into Japanese and Chinese.
